Jamie Hickox

A Canadian born Englishman who represented both countries at the World Team Champs, Jamie Hickox has been part of the performance side of squash for almost 40 years. Learning his squash skills in England, Jamie had a notable junior career, making the England U-19 national squad at 15 and culminating with an U-19 British Junior Open win in 1983. Jamie went on to a successful pro career, ranking in the world’s top 20 for a number of years before taking a coaching post in Malaysia to help prepare their athletes for the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Jamie is dedicated to hands on performance coaching with the view to build the level of squash in the Western Region, and to inspire performance and recreational players of all levels.

Career highlights:

  • Coached the Malaysian Team to Gold at Asian Junior Boys Team Champs, surpassing Hong Kong & Singapore for first time & beating Pakistan in final
  • Coached the 5th seeded Malaysian Girls to second place finish at World Junior Team Champs
  • Took the Malaysian Men’s Team from 21st place to top 8 finish at Men’s World Team Champs within two year cycle
  • Worked closely with Ong Beng Hee (14-18 years old) helping him win the World Junior Championships. Beng Hee became top 8 world ranked player
  • Worked with Nicol David during two Women’s World Team cycles coaching team to 3rd place both times
  • Managed Team Canada at 2015 Pan Champs in Toronto, surpassing 5 medal projection with 6 medals including Men’s Gold
  • Performance Director for Squash Canada managing High Performance program and athlete development pathway
  • Initiated a country wide skills testing protocol. Over 100 athletes were tested for 3 years creating a racquet skills standard for performance juniors
  • 15th– best world ranking, 2nd– best English ranking & 1st– best Canadian ranking
  • Canadian National Champion and 4 time British U-23 closed champ
